The EPPS research agenda centers on implementing and advancing evidence-based policing practices with partner police agencies. Our empirical work focuses on strategies that reduce violent crime while maximizing agency resources and minimizing police-citizen contact. EPPS is leading and co-leading several large, multi-agency projects that evaluate and/or refine proven, high impact interventions. Some examples include hot spots policing, problem-oriented policing, focused deterrence, and code enforcement approaches. These projects are being implemented and tested with agency partners around the United States. Together, this work is meant to understand whether these strategies reduce crime at targeted micro places and whether their effects can scale to citywide outcomes, improve community legitimacy, and enhance efficiency during staffing and resource challenges. Importantly, it is also being tailored to local community and law enforcement needs in South Carolina. Current timelines extend through 2029-2030 as agencies sustain or expand project plans. Each project involves rigorous quantitative analysis of outcomes such as crime, arrests, calls-for-service, and community.
